10:30 am we departed Chang Mai by mini bus... 3 hours and 762 bends later we arrived in Pai. The dread started to consume our minds of it taking ages in the heat of the afternoon to find a cheap room here, instead, thankfully 20ft down the road we found our hut for only B250 in Baan ..... Dumped our stuff and headed out for a wander.
I LOVE PAI, is the general feeling you get from the people here. Many have visited then never left! Hence its quite westernised here, its a sort of hippie hang out.
The river ...... behind us has a small very rickety bamboo bridge which we later discovered tends to need repair work most days. Great view from the other side of rainy mountains in the distance as the sun set.
Back for a shower and to meet and greet our neighbour whose name i cant recall nor could pronounce even at the time, he was Israeli so lets call him Abraham or A for short eh. We joined A for dinner, well he ate we didn't, then he went back to shower, bit odd. So we went up to Pai Post (bar) very good deep voiced female singer along with jazz band were playing but by now we decided we were hungry and they were serving food so we swiftly moved on. The next bars band was awful but we stayed and ate. Soon after A joined us again and off we all wobbled off on the back of his moped (his first time) in search of a good bar. We kinda failed, plenty of bars but they all shut up so early, ended up just round the corner from where we started and stayed till 2am discussing the world.
Pai with its many western residents has more recycling and green activities than other parts, which led us on to how in the UK recycling has become more of a trend than a genuine concern, which led us on to many other things and how there are possibilities of other ways to lead a sustainable life and such... A however didn't agree or fully understand where we were coming from, hence why this conversation didn't end till 2am, even the bar staff had left!
However i quite enjoyed it all heh.
