Woke up to a sunny Bangkok, i couldn't smell it or feel the humidity at this point still sat on the plane...
Got our first experience of annoying taxi men while trying to leave the airport! Decided on the air-conditioned bus, brrr!
Stupidly we asked to get dropped off at Si Lom and fell asleep in Lumphini Park, woke up particularly groggy and struggled our way to Sala Daeng Sky Train Station to Siam, then up to Victory Monument, which is where we started to get a little lost. Don't bother asking locals for directions using a tourist map let alone the taxi drivers who just laugh at you and drive off! A young boy took hold of Liz's bag saying he would show us the way... the wrong way, but then thankfully an American couple pointed us in the right direction. So eventually we checked in to our rather lush and free hotel for the night!
Went for a swim in the pool, lovely, then the sauna that is Bangkok!! Off we went to find a book shop for a lonely planet or something at Central world Mal, again we got pointed in the wrong direction but we did get to see rats, cats and booked a flight to Bali on a whim. Found the Mal, quite a large shrine stood outside and even larger pop music playing out loud.
Bangkok is a big sweaty stinking pit!! Honestly so many disgusting odours!! Its busy, crossing the road takes for ever that's if you make it across the road! lots of unfinished things like pavements with tiny women tottering around in high heels.
Theirs a weird mix of poor and rich in close proximity, which I'm seeing throughout where we've been so far.
